Do you see our science unit in your REAL LIFE? If so, post about it! At least one complete sentence earns you one point extra credit. Remember, your sentence should start with a capital letter and have an end mark. Try to write a because clapper with an example popper! If your post does not follow this rule then it will not count for extra credit (and it will be deleted). Happy posting!

gravity

When you jump on a trampoline you defie gravity for a very short time because it shoots you up into the air and brings you back down fast.

I learned that in our area in the country there are a lot of limestone and sandstone which are sedimentary rocks.
I learned that my grandma has a marble floor in her home and marble is a metamorphic rock.

Sediment

There is sediment in the Pacific Ocean at my grandma's house because you can see small, sand particle and rocks in the water.  For example, when I filled a bucket with ocean water, all of the sediment settled to the bottom of the bucket.
I bought a geode at Yellowstone.  It must be a metamorphic rock, because when I broke it open it had purple crystals in it.

Earthquake lines

Illinois sits on an earthquake fault line. Because of this, we may feel very small earthquakes if we are still enough.  For example, my mom said when she was in high school the pictures started rattling on the wall at night and the next morning she heard on the radio that there was a small earthquake by her house! I think we are near a transform boundary.

Old Faithful

Geysers like Old Faithful, have molten rocks deep in the earth, that heat the rocks and water all the way up to the Earth's surface and because of all this heat, water boils out of the surface under alot of pressure. For example, when we were at Yellowstone, we saw Old Faithful shoot boiling hot water out of a hole!  It was cool.

Grand Canyon

Because the Grand Canyon is made up of mostly limestone, you can see the layers of sedimentary rock that have formed.  For example, a picture I saw showed several layers of reddish brown rock all the way down as far as your eye can see.
